Before you quote it,
identify the window.
A practical photo checklist for roofers and remodelers working on an existing window.

Your customer asks, “Can we just replace the damaged part?” Before you promise a repair or price a replacement, find out what is there. The product, its age and its condition can change the available options.
Start with three kinds of photos.
The whole window, inside and outside
Include the entire frame and the surrounding trim or siding. A close-up alone may leave out clues about the product and how it is installed. If there are several openings, label each set of photos with the room or opening number.
A close-up of the question or problem
Show the affected area clearly, along with a wider view that locates it on the window. Describe what you are seeing: a dent, a broken component, trouble operating the window, or another concern. Photos help start the conversation; some questions need an on-site inspection.
A product label or serial number, if available
Send a sharp, readable photo of the entire label or marking. Label locations vary by product. If you think it is Pella, use Pella’s illustrated serial-number guide to see where to look. Don’t remove trim or force a stuck window just to find a label.
Include a few project details.
- The approximate age of the window, if known—and whether it has been replaced before.
- How it operates: fixed, casement, awning, double-hung or sliding, for example.
- What your customer wants to accomplish: repair damage, improve operation or replace the window.
- Your project location and any timing constraints. Send customer addresses and documents privately.
Identification comes before a replacement decision.
Identifying a series is only one part of the review. Part availability, product vintage, frame condition and the proposed installation also matter. A photo review is not a final repair determination or verification of order dimensions.
For an older Pella window, explore the product identification and history guides. For a storm project, see the hail documentation guidance. Ready to organize a takeoff? Use the window quote checklist.
